Become a Commissioned Lay Pastor!

What is a Commissioned Lay Pastor?

Commissioned Lay Pastors (CLP or CP for short) are laypeople (ordained ruling elders) trained and ordained to exercise limited pastoral services in various ministries as local needs require. Each call is unique: some CLP’s pursue limited commissions to moderate their Session or administer the sacraments while others pursue a full commission more nearly approaching the duties a Minister of Word and Sacrament (what is traditionally thought of as a pastor).

CLP’s are vital in the life of the church. Across the country, only a minority of churches can afford to call a pastor and this is especially true in Alaska. Not only do CLP’s provide vital spiritual opportunities and leadership in their communities, they ensure appropriate respect for the cultural context of their community.
